Warwick are much more Fleet of foot against North Notts

Despite dominating the West Midlands Division Two encounter for long periods, Warwick twice went behind.

A brilliant reverse stick effort from man-of-the-match Rob Pomfret after a pass from Martyn Stickley levelled for the first time before Seb Fleet earned them a share of the points after great work from Tim Williams-Ellis.

Despite falling behind, Warwick rallied to lead 4-1 at the break.

The loss of Andy Mach to a head injury disrupted Warwick and the second half was a more even affair, with Jack Hobbs called on to make a brilliant save from a penalty flick as the sides shared six goals.

Ralph Veltom completed a fine hat-trick for Warwick, with James Allison (2), Elliot Hobbs and Rich Kelly also scoring.

A Steve Lycett strike earned Warwick 5ths a 1-1 draw with Hampton-in-Arden 5ths.

Warwick Ladies’ 3rds moved up to third in Warwickshire Division Four courtesy of a hard-fought 3-2 win over Sutton Coldfield 5ths.

The game brought contrasting styles with Warwick’s speed and youthful intent pitted against the guile and experience of Warwickshire’s largest hockey club.

Youth held sway as Warwick went 2-0 up through Vicky Allison and Tilly Worlidge but Sutton pulled a goal back before half-time while also seeing a short-corner strike chalked off.

Ellie Salmon restored Warwick’s two-goal cushion but a tense final ten minutes ensued after the visitors brought it back to 3-2.

Khalsa opened the scoring after just 21 seconds on their way to a 7-3 victory over Derbyshire-based Barton in the Midlands Premier.

Barton arrived at St Nicholas Park having only claimed one point this season and they fell behind almost immediately with Sav Lall’s tackle initiating an attack which was finished off by Gurmidner Ghattaura.

Aaron Nagra doubled the lead from a penalty corner before adding a quickfire third.

Mandeep Sandhar claimed his first goal of the season to make it 4-0 before Barton pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

Revitalised, Barton pressed high up the pitch after the break.

However, when Jas Singh’s silky skills found the foot of a Barton defender, Nagra stepped up to complete his hat-trick.

A resilient Barton pulled a goal back with a well-worked short corner routine before Khalsa restored their four-goal cushion with another Nagra short-corner strike.

Alex Idoine scrambled home a seventh for Khalsa, with Barton adding a third late on.

Both Khalsa’s veteran sides progressed in the NOW: Pensions Men’s Masters Trophy.

The over40s cruised to a 12-1 win over Nuneaton with captain Pervinder Singh scoring four, while a short-corner strike from Singh Karir was enough to seal victory for the over-60s at Cheshire and Lancashire.
