Spa reach quarter-final

Leamington under-10s will run out at the home of English champions Leicester Tigers after reaching the last eight of the Prima Tiger Cup.

Leamington finished top of their pool at the regional festival, held at Lutterworth RFC.

Superb defending late in the game helped Leamington draw 0-0 with Kenilworth in their opener and they followed it up with a 2-1 win over Leicestershire side Syston-thanks to tries from Louis Clarke and Max Edwards.

Edwards was on the mark again as Leamington beat Loughborough 5-0 in their next fixture. Callum Bobath (2), Henry Mortimer and Jack Lawton were also among the tries.

And in their final game, Leamington beat Melton Mowbray 4-0 with tries from Mortimer, Bobath, Alex Petrie and Josh Smyth to finish top of their pool.

It booked Leamington a place in the Prima Tiger Cup quarter-finals, which will be held at Welford Road before Tigers play Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership on Saturday November 27.

“It was a truly fantastic performance from all 13 boys,” said head coach Dave Mortimer. “All of the coaches, parents and, in particular, the boys should be very proud of a superb result.”
