Shillington and Cahill are lifelong Runners

David Moorcroft was the guest of honour for Kenilworth Runners’ 25th anniversary party at The Warwickshire Golf Club.

The former 5,000m world record holder awarded life memberships to two of the 12 founding members of the club, Mike Cahill and Stef Shillington.

He also presented two awards created in memory of a fellow founding member of the club Mick Morris, who passed away earlier this year.

Michael Johnson won the Mick Morris Memorial Shield for the best age-graded performance of the year and Clive Pearce won the Mick Morris Memorial Trophy for winning the 2011 club league series.

Kenilworth Runners finished 11th in the second race of the Birmingham Cross Country League at Cofton Park, Bournville.

Men’s team captain Phil Gould was able to field one of the club’s strongest-ever teams to tackle a challenging three-lap course of approximately ten kilometres.

Connor Carson was the first Kenilworth runner home, taking 47th position, 40 seconds clear of Phil Gould (64th), who finished just ahead of Rich Simkiss (70th).

The A team scorers were completed by Mike Johnson (81st), Stuart Hopkins (97th) and junior runner Phil McCorquodale (98th).

Seven ladies from Kenilworth Runners took part in the second race of the Midlands Cross Country League at Abingdon Park in Northampton.

The course consisted of one short and two long laps of the park, measuring around 6.8km.

Imogen Peace made a strong start to the race and continued to run excellently to be first Kenilworth Runner home in 28th position.

She was followed by Sarah Stein (93rd), Sally Hicks (104th), Ros Matthews (108th), Mandy Crust (161st), Pauline Dable (162nd) and Joan Mason (187th).

Kenilworth Runners junior Patrick Roddy caused a stir by winning the 94th edition of the Coventry Parkrun.

Roddy took 22 seconds off his previous best over the 5k course, clocking 17:39 and finishing more than 40 seconds clear of the second-placed finisher.

Samantha Calder finished 92nd in 26:44.

Three Kenilworth Runners took part in a very hilly ten kilometre road race in and around the village of Ilmington, south of Stratford, as part of the Threshold Winter Series.

Richard Green was a fine fifth out of the 72 finishers in 42.23 (gun time), winning the M40 category. Mark Hall was 22nd (49:43) and Niki Dove finished 45th (58:07).

Tom and Pauline Dable enjoyed a long weekend in Spain to take part in the Benidorm Half Marathon.

With a 6pm Saturday evening start and with temperatures of around 18°C, 3,000 runners took to the streets of the popular Spanish tourist resort to rapturous support from an enthusiastic crowd.

The route, along a mainly flat two-and-a-half lap course, took in the length of both Levante and Poniente beaches.

Pauline was pleased to clock 2hr 3min, finishing second in the W60 category.

Injury prevented Tom from completing the course, but he was able to enjoy the complimentary post-race massage.
