Pearson misses out again in national final

Kenilworth Squash Club’s Chloe Pearson was runner-up at under-19 level in the English National Championships in Surrey.

Having previously lost out at the final stage of the under-13, under-15 and under-17 age groups, 17-year-old Pearson completed an unwanted full house by losing to Victoria Temple-Murray in the showpiece.

Fourth seed Pearson started her campaign impressively by beating both Cheshire’s Annie Openshaw-Blower and Cumbria’s Hannah Crichton 3-0.

In the semi-final she came up against Georgina Ingham (Surrey) and went 2-0 up before losing a close third.

However, she powered through the fourth 11-3 to set up a meeting with fellow England player Temple-Murray.

The Devon-based Temple-Murray had too much power for Pearson in the final, though, justifying her top-seed status with a 3-0 success.

Pearson still has the consolation of one more year at under-19 level before she moves out of junior events.
