Nagra and Harris at the double for championship-chasing Khalsa

David Harris scored twice as Khalsa survived a second-half wobble to beat North Stafford.

In torrential rain, Khalsa started the brighter of the two sides, dominating possession against a very defensive North Stafford formation.

The hosts broke the deadlock courtesy of a Aaron Nagra short-corner strike.

Mandeep Sandhar had a strike disallowed for an earlier infringement, but Khalsa did double their lead when Jas Ssingh’s slick stick work allowed him to beta several defenders before unselfishly laying the ball off for David Harris for an easy tap-in.

Sav Lall and Amritpal Atwal then combined to win another penalty corner, this time powered home by Ben Scott for a 3-0 interval lead.

Khalsa continued where they left off after the break, winning a quick succession of penalty corners.

However, they failed to convert them and Stafford pulled a goal back on the break.

The goal gave North Stafford confidence and they converted a penalty stroke to further reduce the arrears

With only a goal cushion, Khalsa stepped up a gear with some slick moves between Jo Colantonio and Stuart Gooderham proving too much for the Stafford midfield to handle.

Nagra converted his second of the game, lobbing the keeper and, following another slick move between Gurminder Ghattaura and Harris, Ghattaura provided the assist for Harris to double his tally and re-establish Khalsa’s three-goal cushion.

Ghattauara then added the gloss, converting a penalty stroke after he had been fouled.

Khalsa 2nds’ impressive run came to an end with a 5-3 defeat at Beeston.

Darshane Singh Thiara scored twice for Khalsa with Navdeep Signh Hayer also on target.
