Perry beat Malaysian world number seven Wee Wern Low in four games to set up a clash against Brown on a specially constructed outdoor court at Hull’s KC Stadium.

Buoyed by her win over Low, the Kenilworth player started well against her more experienced Australian opponent, taking the first two games.

At 7-5 up in the third game, Perry tinned a straightforward shot that would otherwise have been a winner, and this proved to be the turning point, with Brown tightening up her play to level at 2-2 and lead 5-0 in the decider.

Perry pulled it back to 7-7 and then saved three match balls to bring it back to 10-10 before eventually sucumbing 12-10 after breaking her racquet in the final rally.
