Kenilworth’s new women’s section is a big draw

Of these, six had never played rugby before while four were returning to the game after a long absence.

One of the new players, Sarah Katy-Davies, said: “I was made to feel very welcome and I felt like I have been part of the team for much longer.

“I will certainly be returning next week and I look forward to the first game of the season.”

The squad has also secured a sponsorship deal with Andrew Whiting Wealth Consultancy and skipper Sarah Munday said the growth of the ladies section has even surprised her.

“I can not believe how great this is going,” said Munday.

“We started out with a small vision which seems to have now snowballed in an amazing way.

“This sponsorship deal means a great deal to myself and the ladies, and it means that come the start of the season we will be looking the part when we run out for our very first fixture.”

The ladies train every Wednesday at Kenilworth’s Cowpatch training groun next to Kenilworth Wardens Cricket Club, with girls at 6.30pm and the women’s session starting at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Kenilworth RFC coach Wayne Morgan has added to his backroom staff by appointing James Wadey as forwards coach, Marco Stanojevic as backs coach and Dan Careless as strength and conditioning coach.

Johnny Marsh has taken on the vice-chairman role.
