Gulliver is celebrating a Dutch double

Trina Gulliver has followed up her Kent Open success by winning the women’s singles title at the Dutch Open in Koningshof.

The Southam-born thrower has been hampered by a hip problem which has restricted her practice time.

However, she shrugged off the discomfort to beat Zoe Jones and fierce rival Anastasia Dobromyslova - a result she described as “quite satisfying” - on her way to a last-four clash against Deta Hedman.

Gulliver trailed 3-1 to fellow England international Hedman, but helped by an average of more than 30, she fought back to win 4-3 before overcoming world number five Lorraine Farlam 5-3 in the final.

The victory completed a fifth tournament success for the 42-year-old to add to her previous titles in 1999, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

It capped an excellent weekend for the Golden Girl, who teamed up with Jones to win the pairs title the previous day, beating Paula Jacklin and Gulliver’s partner Sue in the final.

“I haven’t been practising as much because of the hip,” said Gulliver who is due to have an MRI scan to identify the problem.
