Dan the man again as he beats father to club crown

Warwick Golf Club reigning champion Dan Buckingham defended his title with a closely-fought race against his dad and former champion Rob Buckingham.

Over this gross score two-round competition, Dan carded 77 and 79 for a total of 156. Rob carded 81 and 77 for 158.

Also on 158 (78 and 80) was Ian Scandrett, which won him the Senior Club Championship.

Scandrett’s closest contender for the Senior crown was former champion Ron Jefferies, who had 79 + 83 for 162 total.

Also during the Club Championship, players attempt to win the Warwick Bowl, which is a net score two-round competition.

Tony Houghton was the victorious handicap golfer with net scores of 67 and 69 for 136 total.

Houghton’s nearest contender was Paul Stallard with nets 71 + 66 for 137 total.

Nick Coleman celebrated a coveted hole-in-one during the Joe Gardner Memorial Trophy at Kenilworth Golf Club.

Coleman claimed the ace on the 140-yard par three seventh hole but it was not enough to help him win the annual competition which saw success for Malcolm Sparrow with 39 points.

Countback was required to determine the minor placings with Peter Minshaw taking the runners-up spot by virtue of a better back nine than John Hearne, Ryan Walton, John Duguid and Tom Murray after all five golfers scored 37 points.

No fewer than 16 visitors from Llandrindrod Wells GC entered the event and the top Welsh golfer was Andrew Mills with 36 points.

Results for the Newbold Comyn Open played on Saturday.
