Ghattaura hat-trick inspires Khalsa to 19th straight win

With the Midlands Premier Division title having been secured the week before, Khalsa displayed a much more relaxed attitude at struggling Burton last Saturday.

Indeed, with eight minutes remaining, the sides were locked at 4-4 and it needed an Aaron Nagra short corner strike and a Surrinder Saini breakaway goal to maintain the visitors’ 100 per cent record.

A Gury Ghattauara penalty and a Chris Darling strike had put Khalsa 2-0 up before Burton levelled the scores with two quick-fire finishes.

An aerial ball from Jas Singh allowed Ghattaura to restore Khalsa’s lead before the break and Ghattaura completed his hat-trick shortly after half-time to give the champions a two-goal cushion.

Two penalty strokes allowed Burton to once again regain parity, but Khalsa were not finished and Nagra converted a short corner after good work from Sean Robinson.

With Burton now committing players forward, Saini found himself one-on-one and was able to slot the ball home to complete Khalsa’s 19th league win of the campaign.

Khalsa 2nds moved a step closer to promotion with a convincing 4-0 win over Old Halesonians.

Man-of-the-match Anit Chudasama rounded off the scoring after earlier goals from Jiwan Singh Sidhu, Amrick Singh Atwal and Andew Pell.

The 3rds won 4-2 at Stratford courtesy of goals from Harnaik Singh Hayer (2), Harbinder Singh and Gurmail Singh Chana.

Games are running out for Warwick as they look to avoid relegation from the Midlands Premier.

A 3-1 defeat at the hands of visitors Harborne and a goalless draw against fellow strugglers Coventry & North Warwick left them one off bottom spot with three fixtures left to play and it will take an almighty effort now for them to avoid a quick-fire return to Division One.

Warwick only had themselves to blame on Saturday, with a sluggish start putting them 2-0 down in the early stages.

The hosts eventually found their feet as Dave Bryce had an effort cleared off the line from a short corner and Emlyn Evans and James Tickle both had efforts well saved.

Warwick continued to attack after the break and Bryce and Ant Baxter were denied by the Harborne keeper before the visitors scored a killer third goal on the break.

Bryce did eventually net from a short corner but it was mere consolation.

Warwick had a much more solid look the following day at Coventry & North Warwick, but despite a resolute defensive performance, they offered little up front and had to settle for a point.

Two goals in the closing stages gave Sutton Coldfield’s 5ths a flattering win over Warwick 4ths, with Murray Chatham on target for Warwick.

However, the 4ths bounced back the following day to beat Worcester, Ian Stickels scoring the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time.

Warwick men’s 5ths beat ten-man Nuneaton 4ths 3-0, with Tom Corke, Julian Chronicle and Steve Chidlow on the mark.

Warwick women’s 1sts kept the pressure on Warwickshire Division One leaders Stratford with a comfortable 3-0 win over Coventry City & University.

Bertie Harris opened the scoring in the first half after good work from Mel Preece and Preece was once again the provider after the break as Kirstin Bryce made the points safe with two short-corner goals.

Bex Howe and Cara Williams were on target as Warwick women’s 2nds beat Long Buckby Ladies 2-1.
