Southam swoop for prolific hitman

Southam United have announced the signing of prolific striker Simeon Smith, who has been released by Midland Combination Premier leaders Bolehall Swifts, writes David Hucker.

Prior to his departure from Swifts before Christmas as a result of an “internal disciplinary matter” Smith had bagged 22 goals from just 16 matches.

Manager Luke Fogarty is hoping Smith’s goals will help his side overhaul Bolehall, who are five points clear of Saints having played four games more, and is not phased his bad boy reputation.

“I spoke to Simeon at length and checked him out with a few people whose opinions I trust,” said Fogarty. “His contact has been good and he sent a text congratulating us on our win at weekend.

“He wants to win the league and win it with Southam.”

Smith began his career as an apprentice with Tamworth and has played for Castle Vale and Atherstone in addition to two spells at Bolehall.

He also had a brief one-game stay at Rugby Town last season.
