Racers are raring to go for derby

RACING CLUB WARWICK 5 PERSHORE TOWN 1

RACING Club boss Lee Knight says he “cannot wait” for tomorrow’s home clash with Southam United.

Racers head into the Midland Combination Premier Division fixture without a defeat since late November and further boosted by the thrashing of mid-table rivals Pershore last Saturday.

First-half goals from Ricardo Richards (2), Craig Thomas and Danny Charlton put Racers in command at the break, with Reece Lynch completing the scoring five minutes from time

And, despite a massive disparity in league position between the hosts and Saints, Knight said the game cannot come soon enough.

“I cannot wait to be honest,” said Knight. “There’s a niggle between the two sides. Not between me and Foggy [Luke Fogarty], but between the lads.

“We’ve been wanting to play them since the 4-2 defeat in the league in October which we felt we edged.

“Just a couple of individual errors cost us and, although we beat them in the cup, that defeat is still hanging over one or two of our lads.”

Racers still hold as many as seven games in hand on some of their league rivals and while Knight believes a title challenge is beyond his side, he is refusing to write off the chances of a top-six finish.

“Our league position doesn’t reflect where we are,” he said. “At lot of our wins have come in cup competitions but we can only beat who is in front of us.

“Not many teams can say they have gone since November without defeat and where we finish at the end of the season will be a truer refelection of where we are.”
