Rugby Borough Football Club have announced that Tommy Young and Tom Wardle have been appointed as the new management team at Kilsby Lane.

Tommy Young is well known on the local circuit having had success with AEI Rugby FC, where he guided them to league success on five occasions, along with a string of cup wins. He comes to Borough after a year’s break from football.

Tommy will be assisted by first team coach Tom Wardle, who came through the junior ranks of the club, playing for a number of years before going into coaching.

Borough’s 9-2 win on Tuesday evening at GNP was their first outing in the new roles, hoping to lift the team, currently sixth, into a top three season finish in the Everards Brewery Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division, which they won last season.

Borough went into the game with four new faces freshening up the side on a 3G pitch, which saw a hail storm just as they kicked off.

Alex Webb put them ahead but their hosts soon equalised. Lydon gave Borough the lea going into half time and the second half proved more fruitful as they began to take grip on the game.

Shaun Barber and Lydon both completed hat-tricks.

Other goals were scored by Tanner and Vince on as substitutes for Beasley and Webb before GNP added a late consolation.

Despite behind delighted with the win in what could have proved a difficult game, Young said: “I’m disappointed to have conceded goals and work needs to be done to improve that but it’s three points and if we now go on a winning run we could get into the top three by season end.

“I also thought Barber and Lydon were class tonight and for them to get three goals apiece was just reward for their efforts.

Borough are at home this Saturday in the league against Ellistown, ko is at 3pm. Admission £3 and concessions £1.
