Folkard ends her long wait for National Indoor title

Leamington’s Naomi Folkard won the ladies’ recurve National Indoor Championship for the first time in five years at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh.

The event attracted the cream of Britain’s archers, with Folkard topping the rankings after scoring 577 points for the qualification round of five dozen arrows at 18 metres.

She then went on to win knockout matches against Paula Langton (Netherhall), Johann Meyer (Edinburgh University), Fiona Hirst (Links, Scotland) and Lichfield’s Alyssia Tromans-Ansell before routing fellow GB archer Nicky Hunt (Deben) 6-0 in the gold medal match.

In the regional and county mixed recurve team events Folkard led Warwickshire and West Midlands to first place.

Most Popular

A number of other Leamington archers were shooting, with Hannah Beasley-Suffolk (recurve) qualifying in eighth place with 550 points, only to lose in her last-16 encounter.

Recurves Phil Spink, Anthony Vallance, and Jim Parker, together with compounder Paul Roberts, all shot well, but were unable to make the knockout phase.
