Folkard breaks national record

Dangerous winds brought shooting to a premature close on the second day, but Folkard had already done enough to secure her place in the final at Speke Hall, Liverpool, later this month.

Conditions were similarly difficult on the first day, but despite the high winds, Folkard amassed 1,340 points, including 689 for the short metric (3 dozen arrows at each of 50 and 30 metres on an 80cm face) to improve Olympian Alison Williamson’s 1999 mark by seven points.

The first day also included the English Championships, in which Folkard took first place, ahead of GB teammates Amy Oliver (Dearne Valley, 1,327), Williamson (Long Mynd, 1,274 and Charlotte Burgess (Bruntwood, 1,257).

Oliver, Williamson and Burgess will join Folkard in the grand final.

Adam Ravenscroft (Meriden) also shot well to confirm his place in the grand final of the men’s compound division.

Ravenscroft shot 1,377 and 191 to gain fifth place on the weekend and second place overall.
