England number one Sibley is in pole position at the South Shields GP

Kelly Sibley won the women’s singles at the latest event on Table Tennis England’s Grand Prix circuit.

The Leamington player was in great form at the South Shields GP, the fourth of this season’s series but the first she has entered.

The England No 1 blitzed through her group and the quarter-finals to set up a last-four clash against Megan Phillips of Wales.

Phillips became the only player at the tournament to take a game off Sibley, levelling the match at 1-1. She also held a 7-2 lead in the fourth before Sibley came back to seal a 3-1 win (11-5, 5-11, 11-6, 13-11).

In the final, Sibley faced fellow England Commonwealth Games team member Karina Le Fevre and raced out to take the first game 11-3 to set her up for a 3-0 victory (11-3, 11-8, 12-10) completed on her third match point.
