Playing at all is a bonus for Leamington

Leamington travelled to Kidderminster in what proved to be the only match to get any play at all in the Birmingham League Premier Division.

With conditions remarkably dry, Leamington batted first in a match reduced to 51 overs per side.

However, sure enough, after two overs the rain came and the players were unable to resume until 4pm.

With a maximum of 44 overs remaining in the day and due to there not being enough overs played, the game was therefore classified as abandoned with both sides playing for bonus points.

At the close of play, Leamington finished on 202 for four off their 46 overs to claim eight bonus points to Kidderminster’s six.

Alex Phillips (50), Mark Best (42), Tom Lewis (25), Paul Best (26 not out) and Lee Hopkins (39 not out) all made useful contributions as Leamington reached 200 and a third batting point.

A dogged innings from Ansley Sports’ Danny Aldington denied Kenilworth Town 2nds victory in their Warwickshire League Division Two encounter.

The Town posted an imposing 201 for six off their 50 overs with James Nason leading the way with a solid 63 in which he hit four boundaries.

Simon Lee chipped in with an unbeaten 29, while Chris Prophett added 26 and Rupesh Sarvankar 20.

For Ansley, Braimbridge took three for 36.

In reply, Ansley quickly slumped to four for two and 26 for four as Tom Pope (3-19) wreaked havoc in a frugal 12-over spell.

Jack Howard, Charlie Stranks and Ali Peebles (1-12 off nine) maintained the stranglehold and Nason took three for 11 from his four overs, but thanks to Aldington’s painstaking 40, Ansley closed on 108 from their 50 overs.

Birmingham League outfit Knowle & Dorridge proved too strong for Kenilworth Town 1sts in their Warwickshire Sunday League clash, winning by four wickets with four overs to spare.

The Town posted 132 for seven thanks to an unbeaten 50 from Gregg Peebles which contained five boundaries and a six.

In reply, Knowle eased to 133 for six inside 36 overs as Roberts made 29, Kenny 22 and Harding 21.

Rupesh Sarvankar took two for 23 while there was a wicket each for Imran Khan, Geoff Edmunds, Graham Woodward and James Nason.

Leek Wootton 1sts slumped to a disappointing five-wicket defeat at home to Division Two basement side Exhall & Wixford 2nds in the Cotswold Hills League.

While every other Cotswold Hills match fell victim to the weather, it was testament to Leek Wootton’s ground staff, led by Tony Farndon, that the pitch was in perfect condition as the hosts attempted to maintain their recent encouraging form.

After Ian Cox, leading the team in the absence of injured skipper Graeme Couchman, lost a crucial toss, Wootton’s batsmen struggled in the damp conditions.

After the early dismissal of Tim Dart, Wootton collapsed to 13 for four off 13 turgid overs, and it was left to a gutsy innings from David Johnson (27) and an obstinate knock from Cox (13) to ensure Wootton limped to 83 all out.

The Wootton bowlers also made good use of the bowler-friendly conditions, with Cox removing Exhall’s top three, including Aussie import Leon Gates, to leave the visitors reeling at 18 for three.

However, youngsters Henry Moberley (25) and Chase Edwards (24) held their nerve to guide Exhall the bulk of the way to a five-wicket victory.
