Maynard brothers join forces to lead Bourne to victory

After being put into bat, Hunningham struggled from the outset and soon found themselves in trouble at 34 for six with three wickets each for Gary Maynard and Joe Jordan.

However, the seventh-wicket partnership of Alex Poulter and Pete Harrison started to play with more freedom and they took the score along to 88 before Poulter (24) fell to a fine catch by Jamie Maynard off Harry Jackman.

Tom Stephenson then picked up two quick wickets including that of Harrison for 36 and Tom Shearsby grabbed the final wicket as the away side were all out in the 34th over for 116.

Jordan, with three for 12, Maynard (3-21) and Stephenson (2-16) did the bulk of the damage.

In reply, Bourne were quickly into their stride with Gary Maynard and Jackman looking in good form until the latter was lbw to Ashington with the total on 30.

This left skipper Jamie Maynard to join his brother and these two saw Bourne home to set up a final clash against Fillongley.

Gary Maynard finished on 62 not out and Jamie Maynard 40.

Also on Sunday, a sparkling unbeaten century from Chris Prophet was not enough to guide Kenilworth to victory in their friendly against Olton.

Prophet hit 106 not out with ten boundaries and two sixes as he shared in a 57-run opening partnership with Tom Anscombe (20) and then an unbroken 109-run third-wicket stand with youngster Dan Horner, who chipped in with 26 not out.

However, Town fell 40 runs short of Olton’s 213 for seven, finishing on 173 for two at stumps.

Earlier, Olton’s Will Rigg hit 77 (8 x 4, 1 x 6) as he and Harry Brookes (31) put on 95 runs for their second wicket while Gary Hawkins made 64 (8 x 4, 1 x 6) in the middle order to set the stiff target.

The wickets were shared between five Kenilworth bowlers, with slow bowler Andy Smith claiming three for 48 at the death and Russell Watson (1-25), Jorjeet Singh (1-35), Jonny Mortlock (1-37)and George Webb (1-42) claiming a wicket apiece.

Leamington moved into the next round of the Coventry Charity 20/20 with a narrow win over Standard.

In a rain-affected match, Leamington posted a daunting 166 for three in 20 overs thanks mainly to 53 not out from Mark Lewis and 44 from David Bailey.

Standard required 117 in 14 overs and were always behind the rate despite 71 from Steve Vaughan.

Leamington only faltered in the last over as good hitting brought Standard within a boundary of victory, but Max Webber held his nerve to give Leamington a narrow win.

Leamington visit Wardens in the next round on June 6.
