Quartermaine, who took the fight at 48 hours notice, was tentative in the first round against his bigger, more experienced opponent, throwing single shots.

The teenager emerged more aggressively for the second round, employing the go-forward tactics which shot him to the Nationals and Ricketts looked to spoil and hold as the heavy punching took its toll.

A switch to southpaw paid dividends for Quartermaine in the third with a booming backhand dropping the Bristol boxer to the canvas for a count of eight.

Quartermaine then worked Ricketts into a corner with his jab and a second backhand again found its target.

This time Ricketts needed the ropes to get to his feet, only to drop back down to allow the referee to stop the fight with a minute to go.

Quartermaine is in action again at Warwick School tomorrow night as a curtain-raiser to the second Royal Rumble show.

Boxing-only tickets for the show, which features some of the biggest hitters in the UK, are still available, costing £11, with a table seat at £20.

Warwick ABC boxers Dan Dolan and Joe Horrock suffered mixed fortunes at the Geddington ABC show on Saturday.

Dolan went down on a majority decision to Usman Ali from the host club, with Ali’s aggressive come-forward style getting him the nod from two of the judges.

However, Dolan can be satisfied with his performance after appearing to land the cleaner punches.

Horrocks boxed the heavier, more experienced Arron Llays from Thames Valley club and gradually grew into the contest to take the decision.

Both boxers will be back in action at Warwick ABC’s Assembly show on May 31.
