Perkins hungry for more success after Europeans

Fighting in the EUBC Junior and Youth Women’s European Championships in Keszthely, Perkins suffered an agonising split-decision defeat in the quarter-finals.

However, the Tri-Nations gold medallist was far from downhearted.

“I am extremely proud to have been given the opportunity to represent my country in the European Championships doing something I have such a passion for,” said Perkins.

“I boxed well and am very happy with my results.

“I have a two-week break now before I return to my training.

“As I move up to the senior elite class in January I’m ready to get straight back in the ring and look forward to boxing for England very soon in the future.”

After two close rounds against Poland’s Patricia Komudzinska in her preliminary tie, Perkins dominated the latter rounds, landing with effective backhand counters to move into the last eight of the 48kg Youth competition.

Here the Far Cotton fighter met the vastly experienced Yulia Demianenko, matching her opponent during some furious exchanges at close range.

However, the Ukrainian, with more than 100 fights under her belt, edged the decision by applying pressure and initiating attacks as a composed Perkins boxed more tentatively on the back foot.

 Perkins was supported in her England exploits by a crowdfunding initiative which raised £570 towards training kit and training kit and new gloves.
