Cleary's preparing for an exciting week as four chase Elite National titles
An exciting week for Cleary's Gym will see Morgan Ansell defend her Elite National title and a trio of boxers enter the Senior Elite ABAE Championships.
Danny Quartermaine, Lewis Williams and Sean Greenfield all have high hopes of honours and coach Edwin Cleary believes it is the strongest line-up sent out from the town in years.
“Lewis enters as world youth quarter-finalist and has shown in sparring he’s more than ready to turn heads,” said Cleary.
“He’s a real dark horse.
“Sean is back after some time out and has always had the skills to do anything he wants in this sport.
“If the ring-rust is off he’s going to shock everyone.
“Danny has boxed everyone and with his all-action style he’s the boxer that they all hope to avoid.
“There hasn’t been this level of quality from Leamington for as long as I can remember.
“And it’s just the start.”
Meanwhile, Jake Finch will this weekend be assessed by England at a talented boxers’ day.
Finch has been selected after making two national Elite semi-finals at 52kg and beating a three-time national champion along the way.
Heavyweight Cameron Tait will also be fighting in only his second bout in Banbury.
“We have high hopes for Cam,” said Cleary. “He’s probably had it tougher than anyone as he’s been Lewis Williams’ main sparring partner for the last 12 months.
“He’s been everywhere sparring, even last weekend with an England camp.”
