Whitnash Olympics will be an arena for the community

THE Olympics will be the theme of this year’s community day in Whitnash - but sport won’t be the only attraction.

Charities, craftspeople, singers, dancers and anybody with a quirky hobby has also been invited to showcase their interests.

Deputy mayor Cllr Adrian Barton, one of the organisers, explained the event is built on the town’s ‘fun day’ and followed last summer’s Whitnash Poppy Party to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the British Legion.

The town’s eight pubs and clubs will take part in a league of darts, crib, dominoes and pool in the month leading up to the event, with a tug-of-war on the day, a six-a-side junior football tournament and a mayor’s challenge match between two adult teams.

The event will take place on Sunday June 24.

Anyone wishing to take part should call 07855 372323.
