We offered no advice to close Warwick premises

Police say they were surpised to hear managers at The Porridge Pot in Stratford Road, Warwick, said they are unexpectedly closed because of advice received from them about the horse fair taking place in Kenilworth.

A couple who had booked a table for ten to celebrate their golden wedding were disappointed to find the doors of the pub restaurant were closed on September 28.

But since then Sgt David Kettle, who is in charge of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams for Warwick and Kenilworth said: “I can assure the couple that no such advice had been given by ourselves or the district council.

“The three times a year Kenilworth horse fair, which is three junctions down on the A46, is sometimes unjustly blamed for a number of problems. But I can assure your readers that no advice to close licensed premises in Warwick or indeed Kenilworth, was given by us ahead of the latest event.”

Last week a spokesman for The Porridge Pot offered Maureen and Michael North, who lives in Warwick, a complimentary free meal for ten.
