Wasperton remembers fallen war heroes

THE Last Post sounded out at a village war memorial this month as nearly 200 people attended its rededication.

In glorious sunshine the crowds walked to the Wasperton war memorial exactly 34 years after it was originally dedicated to the two aircrews who lost their lives by the River Avon in the Second World War.

One of the organisers Kath Wright said: “The remembrance service was an emotional occasion particularly when the names of those who had lost their lives were read.

“A wreath on behalf of the residents of Hampton Lucy and Wasperton was laid and a young bugler played the Last Post and Reveille.

“We were particularly pleased to welcome representatives of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. Local civic dignitaries also attended and members of the Stratford British Legion and the Air Training Corps.”
