Door to door peddlers require identity in the form of a peddlers certificate, if they do not have one it is likely they are acting illegally.

Legitimate sellers require a certificate issued by the police chief constable, complete with photograph and valid for one year only.

Officers have reminded that laminated pieces of paper saying, Hawker Certificate are not a valid and should not be accepted.

Police are also urging residents to be aware of cold callers with a rise in reported incidents around this time of year including distraction burglaries, bogus officials, high pressure selling and rogue traders.

The message from the police is ‘if in doubt, keep them out’.

To report any suspicious activity, contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
