Warwickshire Police appoints new Deputy Chief Constable

Karen has taken up the role of National ACPO Lead for Child Neglect and Coronial Matters after a history in uniform and CID roles.

Before joining the force, she served with Hampshire Constabulary and completed three years with the Metropolitan Police.

During her career in Hampshire she worked across child protection and serious and organised crime before being appointed as head of CID.

Since joining the Warwickshire force, Karen has been appointed as chair of the county’s Local Resilience Forum and strategic management boards in Warwickshire and west Mercia.

Her key priorities are include leading intelligence, and child neglect programmes, and working to protect vulnerable people within communities.

Warwickshire Police Chief Constable Martin Jelley, said: “Following an extremely demanding process, I am delighted to have appointed Karen Manners as my deputy.

“She is a highly experienced officer with a proven track record of leading change.

“As Deputy Chief Constable, Karen will be pivotal in ensuring that we keep our communities safe.

“She has been performing the role as Temporary Deputy Chief Constable for the past 2 months and has developed extremely well into the role. I am very much looking forward to working with Karen over the coming years, to help ensure that we meet future challenges and to continue to deliver effective policing services to the communities of Warwickshire”.

Karen said: “The role of Deputy Chief Constable is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of policing in Warwickshire, serving the local communities, and to provide a high quality of service to the public.

“I am committed to delivering change that enhances and improves our organisation and to develop and continue collaborative and effective partnerships within the Alliance and with local authorities and other key stakeholders.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball said: “The position of Deputy Chief Constable is absolutely crucial.

“They are in many ways responsible for most of the day-to-day running of the force, as well as standing in for the Chief when he is not available.

“Karen has impressed me enormously whenever we have worked together over the last two-and-a-half years and I am delighted that Martin has decided to appoint her as his permanent deputy.”
