Warwick mayor’s first £11,000

Warwick mayor Moira-Ann Grainger is looking for imaginative ideas from people involved in local good causes who may want to apply for a share of the £11,000 she has raised so far.

Even though she is only half-way through her year of office, Cllr Grainger (right) has already topped her own £11,000 target to celebrate the town’s 1,100 anniversary.

She’s now set on doubling her money before next May.

But ahead of that Cllr Grainger sees no reason why some of her fund can’t already be accessed for local projects.

She said: “I’m looking to help not only the big charities but little neighbourhood things. Perhaps people may want to sponsor so many meals at a luncheon club, holidays for the disabled or calls to a charity helpline.

“As long as this money is spent in the community, within the CV34 postcode, then I will be happy.”

A recent glittering dinner at Warwick Castle brought in £8,000 after the Great Hall was offered and raffle donations like ski-ing holidays and Jaguar Land Rover experiences were among the prizes.

And members of the historic Court Leet added a further £400 at a smaller dinner in the Court House hosted by Cllr Grainger and her husband, Nigel, officially the mayor’s consort.

Conservation and environmental projects, playgroups, youth schemes, health, education and a host of other activities in the town will also be considered by not only Cllr Grainger but a small panel of honorary judges.
