Victorian Christmas at Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne

Mulled wine and roasted chestnuts were some of the treats for visitors to the 19th century restored blacksmiths and wheelwrights, Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne, at its Victorian Christmas event on Saturday.

Volunteers in Victorian dress gave tours of the workshops and there were also two short film screenings about the history and restoration of the yard.

Apprentice farrier Sam Johnson, 18, demonstrated traditional blacksmithing skills in the 19th century forge, including hand-pumping ancient bellows to make the open fire glow and hammering the red-hot metal to create gifts.

And of course, children were able to meet Father Christmas during the afternoon.

This was Chedham’s Yard final event of the winter. It will re-open on Saturday April 12. Visits must be booked in advance at www.chedhamsyard.org.uk
