Trees of Light: Whitnash mayor shows support for campaign

Cllr Birdi launched the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa’s fundraising appeal by switching on the lights on one of its two Christmas trees which stands outside St Margaret’s church.

At the launch, Cllr Birdi gave a speech, encouraging people to make a donation and to dedicate a tree light in memory of or tribute to a loved one.

He said: “Christmas is always a time to remember, time reflect and hope for the new year.

“The tree of light signifies light and hope and is a beautiful way, not only to remember lost loved ones at Christmas time, but also raising funds for a worthwhile cause which supports others who are in need.

“This is what Christmas is all about , my grateful thanks goes out to all those involved.”

The trees, the other of which is outside Leamington town hall, will shine throughout the Christmas period.

Over the years the Leamington rotary club has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes.

The Myton Hospices touches the lives of almost 4,000 people across Coventry and Warwickshire each year through its hospices, family support services and in the community through Myton at Home.

The charity needs to raise almost £8 million each year to keep its services running.

A Light up a Life Service, to remember lost loved ones, will take place at the Warwick hospice on Sunday from 6pm.
