This year's Rugby Pancake Race will help little Mia

The organisers, Rugby Rokeby Lions Club, have decided to support Mia Williams and her family and are aiming to raise £1,000 to buy a specialised Safe Chair for Mia.

Nine-year-old Mia was born without eyes, has cerebral palsy and suffers from low muscle tone. She has to be carried by her parents but life is becoming more difficult as Mia gets older. So this year’s Pancake Race will help buy a specialised Safe Chair for Mia to enable her to sit independently both inside and out in the garden.

The race takes place on February 9 on Sheep Street, Rugby, and fancy dress is optional but encouraged.

The race winner will receive the Pancake Trophy and the company represented will receive the Pancake Shield to be held for one year.

The person who raises the most sponsorship will receive an inscribed trophy, as will the best fancy dress outfit. Sponsorship forms and monies should be produced on the day when checking in before the event, at the Rugby Hotel in Sheep Street at 11.30am on Tuesday February 9 for the race start at noon.

Rugby Rokeby Lions Club, which organises the Santa Sleigh tour of Rugby every year, raises money for a range of charities and organisations. Some of the Pancake Race funds will go towards the Lions’ charities.
