Therapy support is celebrated with tea

A CELEBRATION of the difference speech and language therapists can make to people’s lives has been held at a Leamington hospital.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust’s ‘Giving voice’ campaign organised a tea party for patients and families who have benefited from working with such health workers and for the therapists themselves.

The event, held at the Feldon ward of Heathcote Rehabilitation Hospital and aimed at those who have had communication difficulties following a stoke, gave staff a chance to meet former patients and see how far they had progressed, while those who had benefitted from their work were able to meet others who had been in similar situations.

Jayne Blacklay, the trust’s director of development, said: “It was a great pleasure to attend the tea party and have the chance to meet staff and patients. A number of the patients said the staff involved had truly changed their lives and what really stood out to me was how much the service is valued. I would like to thank our staff for delivering this wonderful service and helping these patients to regain their confidence.”

The ‘Giving voice’ campaign aims to promote the work of speech and language therapists. To find out more, go online.
