Teachers amazed by Leamington students’ music album

The “stupendous” efforts of a group of Warwickshire College student musicians in creating and launching their own album have impressed their course leader so much that he has hailed them the best he has seen.

As part of their final year project, nine students - aged between 17 and 22 - taking the college’s BTEC extended diploma in music technology, have produced the 11-track album, Hazards of Commitment, which they are now selling to raise funds for the Myton Hospices.

Speaking after their launch party, which was held at St Patrick’s Irish Club in Leamington, course leader Frank Swales said: “Everything at the launch party surpassed all of the previous launch parties and parents and teaching staff alike were amazed at how well everything went - the planning was impeccable.

“They really should be recognised for their stupendous efforts in seeing this project through.”

But the project was far from a smooth ride. Student Hannah Thornicroft, 18, who contributed two folk-rock tracks, said: “It was stressful and it really tested our team-working abilities. Some of those who were originally involved dropped out.

“But we’re really happy with the result. I don’t think we would have made it, on top of having to complete coursework alongside, without our teachers’ support. They have been fantastic.

The other students who worked on the album - which includes ballad, pop, rock, death metal, electronic, comedy and folk - are Lewis Old, Marieta Maslenishka, Oliver Cawsey, Jacob Hopgood, Tom Collings, Sam Issitt, Ben Yorath, Reece West and Joshua Neal-Bate. All received distinctions for their efforts.

The album is available to buy at Warwickshire College or online on YouTube and Sound Cloud. Search for ‘Hannah Thornicroft’ or ‘Jacob Hopgood’.
