Supermarket staff in a spin for charity challenge

STAFF at a Southam supermarket have each pedalled a portion of the distance to the moon in aid of Cancer Research.

The workers together rode 526 miles of the 238,900 ridden by staff across the company.

The store, in Kineton Road industrial estate, beat its target of £1 for every mile, raising £594 as part of the firm’s £10 million fundraising target.

Martina Fitzgerald, the store’s community champion, said: “Although the event was a tall order, four bikes and nine hours later we pushed on till the bitter end.

“The customers were so supportive and very generous. We can’t thank them enough.”
