Stop Leamington becoming ‘Anywheresville’

Leamington risks becoming ‘Anywheresville’ if more out-of-town supermarkets are built on the former Ford Foundry site.

Resident Matt Weston last week urged Leamington Town Council to take a “once in two or three generation” chance to turn the derelict site into “something special”.

The council was debating plans from developers Trilogy Developments for a ‘landmark’ office development, funded in part by a Morrison supermarket.

Mr Weston told councillors Leamington was a “precious” town with many independent shops. He added “If we lose those shops we will lose the distinctiveness of Leamington Spa. We will become Anywheresville UK.”

The town council voted to reiterate an earlier objection on grounds that the offices might not be filled and a need for improvements to roads and junctions.
