Schools help at harvest

HOMELESS people in south Warwickshire will benefit from the donations of food from Southam Primary School pupils who brought fresh and tinned goods in for their harvest festival.

After bringing in their contributions, the children listened to a talk by Salvation Army cadet Leanne Wallace, who explained what the charity does and where the food donations will go.

Headteacher Emma Longworth said: “The children like to get involved and hear what’s going on in the community. They found the talk very interesting.”

The food given at the Prep School Harvest Festival at The Kingsley School in Leamington is being distributed to families in need, the homeless and elderly people.

Hundreds of tins, packets and bottles were collected by John Eld and Geoff Devlin of Leamington Christian Mission, which uses the items to make up Christmas hampers.

It also distributes the fresh produce to single-parent and low income families and homeless people in Leamington and Warwick.

Pupils helped load items into the charity’s minibus.
