Route for Warwick’s first ever half-marathon is announced

THIS is the route for Warwick’s first half marathon, due to be staged in and around the town next March.

The 13 mile run has been organised by the British Heart Foundation whose spokeswoman Hannah Carling said: “We’ve chosen Warwick as a location for the half-marathon as there has never been one in the area before and it has a fantastic starting point and scenic route for runners.”

The castle prides itself on being at the centre of 1,000 years of jaw-dropping history.

Hannah added: “We’re really excited about adding this event to our portfolio in the region and want to encourage locals to sign up and help BHF save lives.”

Already the charity has 845 entrants signed up for the race on Sunday, March 17, which will be pegged at 3,000.

All participants have to be aged 17 or over and will be asked to pay a minimum of £23 entry fee. It’s hoped this initial cost of organising the event will be boosted by sponsorship pledges.

Town clerk Derek Maudlin said: “I was delighted to hear about the half-marathon. Events like this are the lifeblood of a tourist town like ours.”
