Residents submit objections to Local Plan

Residents of Barford, Wasperton and Sherbourne have shown overwhelming opposition to the Revised Local Plan and Gypsy and Traveller Site (G&T) proposals.

A high profile awareness campaign during the last four weeks by Barford Residents’ Association (BRA) has resulted in a formal submission being presented to Warwick District Council (WDC)on Monday (July 29). It reflects that 96 per cent of respondents to a community questionnaire strongly
object to WDC proposals on the
Local Plan and the proposed location of G&T sites, 11 of which are within three miles of Barford.

The main objections centre around the lack of facilities to support the sites, the potential noise and disturbance, the damage it will do the natural and historic environment of the area, and that the sites are near flood areas - all of which contravene WDC’s criteria for the sites.

The BRA said: “Objecting tothe locating of potential G&T sites ad hoc around the south of the county is not nimbyism - it’s purely a case that these proposals have not been thought through.”

The BRA has also objected to the Local Plan proposals for 12,300 new homes - many of which will be built south of Leamington and Warwick.

It added: “This community will continue to fight these proposals and are committed to working with WDC, councillors and of course our MP to rethink these WDC
proposals. ”
