The owner of a fun park in Warwick has vowed to come back after their equipment was damaged in a storm.

The fun park has been in St Nicholas Park for more than 40 years and Jay Wheatley and his family took over running it around 20 years ago.

Jay Wheatley, who runs the fun park, said: "Regrettably at approximately 11pm last night, one of the large trees overlooking our Fun Park in St Nicholas Park collapsed onto our equipment.

"This was due to extreme stormy weather during the night.

"The damage has resulted in us being unable to trade whilst the tree is removed, and our damaged/ destroyed equipment is removed.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank Warwick District Council for their excellent support following on from this incident.

"They got onto the incident straight away and we had their staff and contractors on site promptly in the morning to aid with the removal of the tree and the clean-up operation on site.

"Once the tree is removed, we will then look to extract our damaged equipment, get damaged utilities repaired and reconnected and will hopefully have the site up and running again in the coming days."

Jay said that this year has been tough on the business - with the recent damage adding to it.

He said: "It has been an emotional rollercoaster this year with Covid and now this. We are just trying to see the positives at the moment.

After pictures of the damage were shared across social media Jay said he was touched by the response and that they would be back soon.

He said: "We would like to thank all the members of the public who have wished us well and for the offers of support during this difficult period in an already difficult year.

"However, rest assured, we are not going anywhere and will be back up and running, serving members of the public once more in the near future.

"We hope we will see you all again soon and you will continue to support us with your custom in the very near future."
