A sea scouts group in Warwick is inviting residents across the Warwick district to rake part in their 'big cream tea' event to help raise money for their new headquarters.

With 'national cream tea day' on June 26, the 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts have decided to celebrate by hosting an event over that weekend; with as many people having a cream tea as possible in a safe way, and making a donation (suggested £5, the cost of a cream tea at a cafe).

Since the arson attack on 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts new HQ building in February, work has been on hold, and they hope that work on-site will begin very soon.

In the meantime, they are still working hard to raise the final £8,000 they need to complete the build.

Each year in June, the sea scouts normally organise a summer fun day and regatta in St Nicholas Park, but due to the pandemic this can’t take place this year.

So they came up with the ‘virtual’ cream tea so that the community can come together to join them, have some fun and help raise valuable funds at the same time.

Hazel Underwood, a 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts supporter, said: "I hosted a cream tea for neighbours in my garden last year which raised funds for 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts and was great fun!.

"This year I’ve decided to offer a delivery service for cream teas to my neighbours, in exchange for a donation.

"I have already had some orders and donations.

"I hope others will join me over the weekend of June 26 to June 28, either by having their own cream tea, organising a virtual one or hosting a socially distanced ‘cream tea’ in their garden.

"Let’s help them raise the funds they need to get this hut finished."

Here's how to join the ‘big cream tea’:

● Have a ‘cream tea’ at home and make a donation
