Warwick school pupil awarded prestigious bursary

A pupil at a school in Warwick has been awarded a prestigious bursary.
King’s High Pupil, Sam Simkin, is celebrating after being awarded the prestigious Mary Dormer Harris Memorial Bursary, a legacy from the eminent Warwickshire historian.

Hide AdEach year, the trustees of the bursary fund invite applications from Sixth Formers studying in the Upper Sixth at one of fifteen Warwickshire schools.
It exists to help and encourage young students in the study of history, drama and musical activities, subjects that Mary Dormer Harris was particularly passionate about.
Recipients are chosen not only on their academic attainment, but also on their character and promise, and their applications are supported by references from their school.
Sixth Form pupil Sam said: “Mary Dormer Harris was an exceptionally strong woman.

"Being awarded this bursary in her name is a huge honour, and will encourage me to continue fighting for greater equality and freedom for individuals globally.”
Sam will be formally awarded with the bursary once school reopens.
