A resident in Warwick is aiming to spread some festive cheer in the area he lives with a special carol service.

Gethin Jones, who lives in the flats in Cape Court, is organising a carol services on December 11, which other residents in the flats can take part in from their balconies and windows

When asked what inspired him, Gethin said: "My church (St Paul's in Leamington) encouraged people to do carols for their neighbours as not many people are able to attend services this year.

"During lockdown, the flats in my area came together brilliantly to support our key workers and so I thought it would be nice to sing a few carols together to help spread some festive cheer.

"The idea is that it will be a carol service from people's windows and balconies.

"Each block has been sent a poster explaining the date/time and the three carols we will be singing - including the key in which they will be sung."

As well as singing sheets, Gethin, who is 34, will be supplying music sheets in case anyone with instruments also wanted to join.

He said: "I just thought we'd include the keys in case people do want to play. I remember hearing someone play The Last Post beautifully one year so who knows

"We will be doing three carols and a short rendition of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.

Gethin, who has lived at Cape Court for five and a half years, is also hoping the small service will lift people's spirit during the pandemic and tier 3 restrictions.

He said: "There was a nice feeling of goodwill and community during the clap for carers and so I'm hoping this will just bring some cheer during this difficult time.

"Community events at this time of year during these circumstances are important - I know of a few other local/street carol services taking place in the area."

The Cape Court balcony/window-based carol service will take place on Friday (December 11) at 6pm.
