The 1/4 acre garden of Liz's family home at Fieldgate is set out formally with lawns, colourful herbaceous borders, and a pond.

In June, the roses are star performers, with large blooms rambling through holly and yew, and bush roses in the borders amidst abundant perennials.

Blue geranium, tall yellow verbascum and many-coloured salvia will be joined by yellow and orange heleniums and pink and white phlox by the end of June.

This year’s project has been clearing old compost bins and a decrepit shed from under the ancient beech at the top of the garden.

Retired engineers Liz and husband Bob plan to transform this spot into a woodland area over the winter ; any visitors' ideas on design and what to plant would be very welcome.

The garden will be open on June 20 and June 21 and admission will be by pre-booked slots only.

Tickets for timed visits (one hour duration) can only be booked at: https://ngs.org.uk/product-category/garden-tickets/the-midlands/
