This year’s pantomime, Aladdin, had to be postponed until 2021, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Audiences and those working in the industry are devastated that pantomime can’t go ahead this year.

Anyone who has been to see a pantomime at the Royal Spa Centre will know that the throwing and catching of toilet rolls is synonymous with the show – so the theatre came up with an idea to recreate the magic that a trip to pantomime brings, despite the disruptive year so far.

The theatre is calling out on social media, and appealing to local businesses, for people to film their own ‘toilet roll’ throwing videos.

Submit a video of someone catching, and then throwing a toilet roll. Clips received by the team at the Royal Spa Centre will then be edited together to make one video, to seem as if people from all over the district are throwing toilet rolls to one another.

Bronwyn Alsop, Marketing Supervisor at the Royal Spa Centre said: “The loo roll has become a symbol of this year and is also a memorable feature of our pantomime.

"We thought this would be a light-hearted way of poking fun at 2020, encouraging people to unite in their love of pantomime and support for the cultural industries as a whole – an industry which has been severely affected by the impact of Coronavirus”

"To take part and be in with the chance of winning 4 tickets to next year’s pantomime (worth £78) all you have to do is film your very own toilet roll video, that will be included in the chain.

"You may even be the lucky person to throw to, or catch from JP McCue."

The only guidelines are that your clip needs to be no longer than 10 seconds, and needs to be as creative as possible – you could tap dance, wear a costume or do keepie uppies with the toilet roll before kicking it off camera.

Send your video to any one of the Royal Spa Centre’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).

The competition closes 15th December when all entries will go into a prize draw and the winner will be announced on December 23rd along with the full video.
