The owners of Rugby’s cement works have been given permission to deposit 13,500 cubic metres of excavated material on land on their site in New Bilton.

HGV tippers will move the waste across the site and a bulldozer and excavator will then place the materials, which will be mostly reworked mudstone and limestone, on to an existing 80m x 70m mound which will then be landscaped.

Planners at Warwickshire County Council used their delegated powers to approve the plans put forward by Cemex which are part of its ‘Climafuel project’ which will see a new facility built.

Climafuel is an alternative non-hazardous fuel produced by household, commercial and industrial waste after any recoverable materials have already been removed for recycling.

The new steel-clad building will handle the materials when they enter the site on Lawford Road.

Plans for the new building were approved in March 2019.
