Platinum couple from Whitnash remember the night of their first date

A Whitnash couple will reach a fantatsic milestone in their married life tomorrow when they celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary.

Kathleen and Sydney Evetts tied the knot at All Saint's church on Jully 22 1950.

The Courier series covered their diamond wedding anniversary ten years ago and it was then that they shared the story of how they met and fell in love.

Kathleen remembers how Sydney had been late for their first date so, making sure he knew he had to chase her for her affections, she made sure she was dancing with somebody else before he arrived.

The couple met while they were both working at Lockheed in Leamington and first impressions lasted.

Kathleen said: "I kept walking past him when he was on his machine, you see.

"He was very handsome."

Sydney said: "I thought she was beautiful."

The couple went dancing together for 18 months before they got married.

Their honeymoon was in Morecombe.

At the time they had to prove they were married by bringing their certificate as proof they were entitled to share a room.

They set up home in Ranelagh Terrace but have lived in Murcott Road East for more than 50 years.

A keen bowls player, Kathleen won trophies at county level and the couple triumphed in many mixed pairs contests.

Dancing was another long lasting hobby first ballroom and later sequence dancing.

The couple have two children and several grand children and great grandchildren.

They out the success of their marriage down to helping one another.

Mr Evetts has said: "I have no regrets."
