Usually the mayor making takes place in May but in April it was announced that the current mayor, Cllr Neale Murphy was to have an extended term in office due to the pandemic.

The town council would like to thank for Cllr Murphy for his service to the town.

The new Mayor of Warwick will be Cllr Terry Morris.

Terry Morris has been active in his role as a town councillor since 2015 and has chaired Warwick Town Council’s finance and policy committee in addition to serving on the community and culture and allotments committees.

Terry is an advocate of mental well-being and will be supporting several charity initiatives during his mayoral year to both raise awareness of, and funding for, the mental health needs of local residents of all ages and across all sections of the community.

As mayor, Terry will attend both historic and contemporary events, meet with individuals, organisations and communities to recognise their contribution to the town, and to uphold civic pride in Warwick.

This year's mayor-making will be taking place at St Mary's Church at 6.30pm and this year the meeting and ceremony will not be open to the general public due to Covid-19 and social distancing rules.

It is a historical setting fitting for the inauguration of the Mayor of Warwick as First Citizen of Warwick, a role steeped in tradition and ceremony that dates back to 1664.

The venue also recognises that St Mary’s was used for town meetings, under the Court Leet, before the adoption of the Court House.

The Mayor’s diary is co-ordinated by Sarah Acklam at the town council, who can be contacted by emailing: [email protected]
