Kenilworth RFC launch short story competition

Kenilworth Rugby Football Club (KRFC) has launched a short story competition for its younger members.

The competition has been organised by the club with English tutor Leah Heath and author and former player Stav Williams.

It is open to KRFC Mini and Junior members and their friends and siblings, who are aged between five and 16 years old.

Entrants must write a short story of no more than 500 words, which may be fiction or non-fiction and have a rugby related theme. Those entering are also invited to submit an original illustration to accompany their story, if they want to.

There are three age categories to enter; ages five to eight years, ages nine to 12 years and ages 13 to 16 years.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

- Originality

- Plot

- Enjoyment

The competition will be judged by Leah Heath, Stav Williams, Willie Whitesmith, President of Kenilworth RFC and Alison Firth the Mayor of Kenilworth.

The competition opened on Thursday April 9 and will close on April 30 at noon.

Any entries submitted after the closing date will not be considered and entrants can only enter individually at one entry per person.

The winners will be formally announced on May 9 via KRFC News, the KRFC website, on social media and will also be submitted to the Kenilworth Weekly News for publication. the stories will also be read out live on social media by Alison Firth, Mayor of Kenilworth.

Winners in each category will each receive a signed copy of Stav Williams’ book 'Why Can’t You Just Be a Normal Girl' and will be provided with pizza for their family, courtesy of the Wedding Pizza Company.

Entries must be submitted via email to: [email protected] by an adult (parent/guardian) on behalf of the youngster.

The parents or guardians of the winners will be contacted on May 8.
