Historic Kenilworth building to be transformed into boutique university

A derelict workshop in Kenilworth, dating back from the 1740s, is being converted into a 'boutique university'.

Formerly a pub, Berkeley House, in The Square, was also once used for storage.

Horses and carriages would pass through under the archway at the side of and offload barrels of beer and other supplies.

It later became a centre for water distribution as there are several wells underneath the building which are still there.

In later years, it was used as a dog training centre.

The building at the back of Berkley House is not listed and, despite demands for it to be knocked down, Professor Reza Ziarati is pursuing his dream to create a centre of learning.

At considerable personal expense and in the middle of a pandemic he has decided to start the project.

The University Centre Garden City aims to establish a series of novel engineering and business programmes.

The first degree it will offer will be computer engineering and cyber science and a master degree in marine engineering and navigation science.
