Fundraiser from Leamington Morrisons walks 15 miles to help raise money for charity

A fundraiser from Leamington’s Morrisons supermarket walked 15 miles last weekend to help raise money for charity.

On October 22, Morrisons community champion Alex Pearson took on the challenge in aid of Young People First, which supports young people in the Warwick district.

Alex and her dogs Archie and Chester were joined by members from the charity and walked towards Warwick town centre and then towards Leamington, Offchurch and Radford Semele before finishing at Morrisons.

Alex said: "I had set out my plan for 2023 with five amazing charities and seeing the work the team do at Young People First is just amazing.

“We have continued to support them this year with donating money to help holiday hunger, offering them to ask for food in stores in our fill a bay challenge and by allowing the young people to come to the store and have interviews to help them in the future.

"We love the work they do and we know the difference they can make in young people's lives.

"We know that the money raised on the day will go to support the Christmas appeal they hold to help families in need.”

Jo Squires, manager at Young People First, said: "We are so grateful for the support of Alex and Morrisons for us at Young People First. Alex consistently goes above and beyond to support us as a charity.

"We work with families that desperately need support and all the money raised will go directly to making a massive difference to families in need this Christmas.”

Jayne Thomas, outreach manager at Young People First, added: “Christmas is a wonderful, fun, joy-filled time of the year, but the costs can easily spiral.

"Young People First work with families living in poverty for whom Christmas can be a real struggle.

“Every year we hand deliver over 50 hampers to some of the families most in need in our area and fill them with some of those little luxuries they can't afford.

"We are delighted and so grateful that Alex from Morrisons is supporting us to deliver this project by doing a sponsored walk to raise much needed funds.”

So far the team have raised £82 and want to raise at least £200.
