Bilton Post Office has been recognised for its huge contribution to keeping Rugbeians safe, fed and informed during the lockdown.

The ceaseless work of Bilton Postmaster Amjad Ali and his staff was highlighted at the Post Office’s ‘We’re Stronger Together’ regional awards for the Midlands region.

The awards recognised the efforts made by postmasters across the region to keep branches open during the Covid-19 pandemic and serving their local community.

Post Office Area Manager Alarna Williams, said: “Bilton Post Office has really pulled out all the stops to serve the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

"His branch remained fully open and for four months’ Amjad worked every single day.

"After long days working he then collected parcels for posting from the houses of regular customers who were isolating. He also delivered stamps to those who were unable to visit.

“Amjad printed 5,000 leaflets with this phone number on offering help to the community.

"These were delivered with the help of volunteers, along with pharmacy prescriptions and newspapers.

"A food bank opened in Bilton Post Office for people to contribute items.

"Free food and toiletries was delivered to deserving people. Bilton Post Office’s Facebook page, which has a big following, was used to update the community with daily updates.”
